In France, the resources which are useful for a family tree are :

• civil records (from 1793 to nowadays)
• parish records (before 1793)

In principle, it's possible to go as far back as 1730, even sometimes 1670-1680, but it depends of the records.

From you to your father, his father, etc...only with the spouses' names mentioned.

Will be added also the brothers and sisters.' birth certificates.
